Colander Scoop: Lift, Drain and Serve in One Move
Pouring a big pot of pasta into a colander means lifting a heavy pot of boiling water, steam in your face, and a sink you have to clear first. A colander scoop skips all that. You reach into the pot, scoop out the food, let the water drain back in, and drop it on the plate.
It's a long-handled scoop with a wide, deep basket full of small drain holes and a flat front edge that slides along the bottom of a pot. It measures about 34.5 × 12.5 × 6 cm (13.5 × 4.9 × 2.3 in), with a hole at the end of the handle for hanging. Drain pasta and veggies right from the pot, without lifting it. Choose blue or black.
What is a colander used for?
A colander drains liquid away from food: pasta and boiled potatoes out of their water, or rinsed beans and berries. A scoop colander does the same job one scoop at a time, which is handy when you want to keep the cooking water for sauce or cook a second batch in it.
What to use a strainer scoop for
- Short pasta like penne, fusilli and macaroni
- Dumplings, ravioli and gnocchi as they float up
- Blanched vegetables and boiled eggs
- Rinsing a handful of berries or beans
For long pasta like spaghetti, tongs or a regular colander still work better.
Colander spoon or spider strainer?
A wire spider is great for frying, but small pasta slips through the gaps. This scoop strainer has a solid, holed basket, so even small shapes and peas stay put.
Care
It's dishwasher safe. Use it in boiling water, not in hot frying oil, and don't leave it resting on a hot pan.
