Vegetable Peeler with Teeth: Peel and Julienne with One Tool

If you've ever stood at the counter cutting a carrot into matchsticks one slow slice at a time, this is the tool you wanted. It's a vegetable peeler with teeth: one side has a regular smooth blade for peeling, and the other has a row of small teeth that cut thin, even strips as you pull.

So you peel the carrot, flip the tool around and turn the same carrot into julienne strips for a salad or stir-fry. Two tools in one, and matchstick strips in seconds instead of minutes. No mandoline to set up, no knife skills needed.

What the teeth are for

The toothed blade cuts strips about the width of a matchstick. That's the cut you want for slaw, spring rolls, pad thai, banh mi, garnishes and quick zucchini noodles. The smooth blade handles everything a normal peeler does: potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, apples, even ginger.

How to get clean strips

  1. Peel the vegetable first with the smooth blade.
  2. Lay it on a cutting board and hold the far end.
  3. Pull the toothed blade toward you along the full length in one steady stroke.
  4. Turn the vegetable slightly and repeat. Stop before your fingers get close and cut the last bit with a knife.

Firm vegetables work best. A soft or bendy zucchini will tear instead of cutting cleanly.

Is a potato peeler with teeth worth it?

If you only ever peel potatoes, a basic peeler is fine. But if you make salads, stir-fries or veggie noodles even once a week, having the julienne blade on the same handle saves you a second gadget and a lot of chopping. For big batches, a mandoline is still faster.

Details

  • Two stainless steel blades: smooth and toothed
  • Long, rounded plastic handle with a hanging hole
  • Two-tone colors, sent at random

Cleaning

Rinse it right after use, before bits of vegetable dry between the teeth. A small brush clears the toothed blade much better than your fingers, and it's safer too. Dry it before putting it away.

It's a small, inexpensive tool you'll reach for every time you make a salad. Add it to your cart and give your knife a break. Looking for something different? Compare our other julienne peelers or browse potato peelers.
